Bob and Lori Curtis established Rain Dance Gallery in the Washington DC area in 1992. As a natural extension of their interest in collecting American Indian art, the gallery gave them the opportunity to travel west often for their buying trips. On these trips, they fell in love with the Durango area, the culture and the way of life, and were determined that as soon as possible, they would move out west.

Bob and Lori relocated the gallery to beautiful downtown Durango, Colorado in 2003. After renovating a historic building on Main Avenue, they used the additional space to add western wildlife, landscapes and cowboy art to a diverse selection of American Indian art. The beautiful Rain Dance Gallery exhibits contemporary representational paintings, sculpture, glass, and furniture art by a variety of talented Western and American Indian artists; who depict life in the West from their own unique perspectives. The ever-evolving collection includes works by emerging artists as well as internationally established artists, always offering fresh and exciting choices to suit both the seasoned art collector and the beginning art buyer. Bob and Lori enjoy developing on-going relationships with artists and collectors, and providing hands-on personal service to make the art buying experience even more gratifying. The gallery list of distinguished artists includes Linda Loeschen, Rance Hood, Bob Canning, Tim Howe, Nancy Dunlop Cawdrey, Jami Tobey, Carla Romero, Juan Machicado, Jonathan Frank, Leslie Talmon, Elizabeth Kinahan, Dave LaMure, J.D. Browning, Ira Lujan, Tony Jojola, Robert Marcus, as well as paintings, pottery, baskets, jewelry, sculpture, carvings and rugs by numerous American Indian artists.

Durango is a small town nestled in the southwest corner of Colorado, and prides itself on its unique art offerings and trends. It has a rich history of ranching, the Narrow Gauge steam train, wonderful wildlife and beautiful scenery and landscapes. Collectors are interested in art that connects them to this American West experience: contemporary cowboy and American Indian art, strong colorful landscapes, and art depicting the rich, vernacular landscape and wildlife. Rain Dance Gallery carries lots of large format paintings and encourages its artists to paint large--which has proven to not only accurately depict the gorgeous surroundings, but also has provided the gallery with a successful niche market.
